
The "Higson Building," located in Carmel's "Court of the Golden Bough," is now available for new ownership.
This Landmark stands in the center of Carmel's Commercial Business District and was once part of the original "Golden Bough Theater," A centerpiece of Carmel's colorful past. Frequented by residents and Hollywood Stars from 1921 through 1930 until its closure due to a tragic fire. The "Court of the Golden Bough” has remained a landmark enjoying an array of mixed uses.
The Court of the Golden Bough featured, "Anzel's Garden Cafe." This historical, 40 year old cafe fed City Hall employees and was a meeting place for locals and visitors. This same location was used in a scene featuring Clint Eastwood in the movie, "PLAY MISTY FOR ME."
The Arawan Thai Cafe, nestled in the courtyard, offers intimate outside seating with flowered walk through from Ocean Avenue to Monte Verde Street through a secret passage.
Carmel's, "Expert Alterations," is a pivotal service for locals as well as visiting shoppers. As one walks past the shops and cafe they have the warm feeling of being in another time and place.
